Book Reviews

Is this book acceptable for my child (or me!)? What are some of the salient topics in the book? What should I be prepared for (language, sexual content, violence)?

I am an avid reader/listener of science fiction and fantasy.  I love epic novels and complex relationships.  Dystopian novels and storylines also play a part in the books I read.  Often, these books are considered YA (young adult).  The “young adult” age range typically means “teenager,” but keep in mind that adolescence may last to the mid-20s (think about the development of the frontal lobe).  Often, the topics discussed and present in the books are scary for the adults: my child is reading WHAT??!!!  But for the teen, the writing is personal, relevant, and oftentimes, socially educational.  My goal in these review are to highlight some books/series/authors that I have enjoyed and would recommend to particular young reader-friends of mine.  Some of the other reviews will be of books geared more toward adults, but you may find your youngster completely capable of handling the content.
